With a limit of 6 babies at any one time, our baby room has an intimate home-from-home atmosphere. We have experienced staff who follow the home routine of each baby as closely as possible and we provide a variety of stimulating sensory activities in a caring and friendly environment to promote your baby’s holistic development. We plan activities using current government guidance and consultation with parents.
Parents are asked to supply wipes, nappies and milk to ensure continuity between home and nursery for all babies. We are a breast feeding friendly nursery and will support mothers returning to work and still wishing to breast feed. Our staff are trained in the storage and use of breast milk and we welcome you visiting to feed during the day where possible.
When your baby is around 12 months old and once they have found their feet we would hope to advance them to the Tweenie Room. This would take place after discussions with yourself.
Children in our Tweenie Room are cared for under the supervision of qualified and experienced staff (Staff Ratio 1:3).
The period in the Tweenie Room provides for a smooth transition to the toddler stage by adopting a more challenging approach to the day. Children are given the opportunity to extend their learning and build self–esteem using range of natural, open ended resources and sensory based experiences.
We recognise that children need to feel emotionally secure, so we work hard to promote warm relationships and positive well-being within the nursery. Each child’s day is recorded for you to take home so you know exactly what your child has been up to.
After the Tweenie Room we will look to move your child to the Toddler Room. This should happen when your child is about 2 years old, though we will discuss the transition process with you before any room changes happen. In the Toddler Room children are cared for under the supervision of experienced staff (Staff Ratio 1:5).
The Toddler Room provides a structured day with a wide choice of learning opportunities using loose parts and open ended resources. We will also introduce early numeracy and literacy skills and experiences designed to promote your child’s communication skills.
Your child’s day is recorded for you to take home so you will know what they have been learning at Happitots.
Happitots is recognised as a 3-5 year old partnership centre by the Education Department. In our Preschool Room children follow the Curriculum for Excellence (Staff Ratio 1:8). We provide a stimulating environment which has a variety of loose parts and open ended resources to promote positive learning experiences. Our 3-5’s enjoy music and movement classes and in addition preschool enjoy swimming and Spanish classes, at no additional cost.
We pride ourselves on ensuring that when children leave the nursery to move on to school they do so confidently and independently, taking with them the enjoyment of learning and a pride in their achievements. We strive for your child to have the following skills when leaving the nursery: recognising and writing their own name, demonstrating good observational skills, showing preliminary reading skills, handling good pencil control, showing creative skills and knowledge of numbers.
At the end of each year our 3-5s children take part in a graduation ceremony where they are presented with their leaving certificates and there is always a special party to mark the end of their time at Happitots!
Our newly refurbished outdoor space offers the opportunity for children to extend their learning outdoors. The outdoor space is split into two areas - one for the younger and one for the older children. In addition we have the luxury of Garrowhill Park next door and through partnership with Muir Memorial Church we have the chance to play and grow crops in the church garden.
